Wuhan City Construction College is the Water Service and Let Profession of the Wuhan Tectonic Material Industry College, which was established in 1952. It changed into undergraduate in 1960. In the October of 1971 it was combined with the Beijing Tectonic Material Industry College and changed the name to be the TectonicIndustry Department of the Hubei Tectonic Industry College. Then it changed to be the Tectonic Engineering Department of the Wuhan Tectonic Material Industry College. It was granted with the municipal engineering spot. The name was determined to be Environment Engineering Department after the Wuhan City Construction College was established in 1983.On the ground of the water service and let profession and the municipal engineering spot, the environment engineering profession was established in 1985,the urban gas profession was established in 1987and then the HVAC engineering profession in 1993.The environment engineering master spot of the Environment Science and Engineering Department was started in 1996 and the undergraduate profession and master spot of the HVAC and urban gas profession of the Civil Engineering Department was started in 1997.

School of Environmental Science and Engineering contains the Environment Science Department, the Environment Engineering Department, the Municipal Engineering Department, the Building Environment and Equipment Engineering Department, the Environment Physic Institute, the Environment Manage and Assess Institute, the Environment Hygiene Engineering Technology Cadre Training Section of the Ministry of Construction and the College Center Laboratory. It has three Bachelor's degree programs i.e. Environment Engineering, Water Supply and Sewerage Engineering and Equipment Engineering, and five Master's degree programs i.e. Biology, Environment Science, Environment Engineering, Municipal Engineering and HVAC, and three Doctor's degree program i.e. Environment Engineering, Municipal Engineering and HVAC . We have a good laboratory, in which the Water Service and Let lab id a key lab of the Ministry of Construction. And we have complete course system, in which the <Water Service Engineering> is one of the quality courses of Hubei Province.

There are 87 teachers and workers in total now, in which there is one academician of the National Science Academy, 17 professors ( 7 PH.D Supervisors, 7 middle-aged or youthful experts who made outstanding contribution to the country and province),19 associate professors, 16 docents and 6 assistants. There are 1265 undergraduates, 181 masters and 10 doctors. In addition, there are 165 masters who are on-the-job and more than 600 mature graduated students in some different kinds.

The professions of our college cover ecology, life, chemistry, material, machine, engineering, physic and so on, possess the advantage of subject crossing and founded a new environment science research and engineering system. There are a group of experts and scholars who are excellent in learning and come from different professions. We are peculiar in some basic research such as environment ecology, environment toxin, environment biology, and environment chemistry. We arrived a lot of accomplishments and kept strong engineering background in water disposal, solid waste disposal and resource, air pollution controlling, indoor environment, dean producing and environment monitor and so on. At present, we have 69 projects in hand, in which there are 17 projects that are founded by the county natural science or emphasized by the province. We received more than 3,000,000 Yuan or the use of researching. We established a lot of laboratories such as water service and let, gas and HVAC, environment biology, environment chemistry, indoor environment, environment materials, environment hygiene, environment toxin, environment monitor and so on. The area of the experiment rooms is about 800 squares and the total asset of the equipments is about more than 13,000,000 Yuan. These provide strong support to teaching and researching.

In the aspect of international communication and cooperation with some related schools in America, Germany, Japan, Korea, France, Austria, Holland, Honking and Marko. There are some teachers go to study, teach and research abroad every year. And lots of foreign confreres and experts are often invited to teach and communicate with us.

(1) Historical background:

 School of Environmental Science and Engineering(ESEC) is formed by four parts in 2000after the combination of the HUST. They were the Environment Science and Engineering Department of the primary school, the HVAC profession of the Civil Engineering Department, the Environment Engineering Department of Wuhan City Construction College and the Environment Physic Institute of the Tongji Physic Science University. Environment engineering: Environment engineering is a new boundary comprehensive project that develops quickly. The main tusk is studying the technique theory and method of pollution prevention and applying and developing engineering craft and equipment protection is one of the new economical increasing points of our country or even all the world.

This profession cultivates senior engineer technical talents or researching talents who will be engaged in environment engineering. Our aim is to make them have strong theory basic in the environment engineering field, have the basic ability to design the environment engineering technique and establishment, master the basic knowledge and technique to evaluate the environment quality, monitor the environment and so on, have high applying lever of computer and English. It concentrates especially on cultivating students’ cooperating spirit and self-teaching ability. We conduct the senior students to shunt into related directions in science, engineering, agriculture and physic. That is to say, starting series courses in solid waste disposal and resource, water pollution controlling engineering, environment protection equipment, environment biological chemistry and environment physic, conducting students to choose and let them progress with their own thoughts.

Water Supply and Sewerage Engineering Water id the blood of a city and the water industry is the sun shining industry of the 21st century. This profession cultivates senior engineering technical talents in the city water engineering and the planning, designing, administering and technique developing of the water industry. The work we can do contains equipment design of tap water factories and high quality drinking water, equipment design of waste sanitizing factories and environmental water disposal, plan of city water environment, design of water views and equipment engineering of high building, design of the water service and let systems and middle water systems of city and uptown and so on. So, after passing through all the courses our students will get the following comprehensive abilities: (1) Master the developing and applying of water quality engineering, the pipe system of the city water service and let, water service and let of building and so on. (2) Master some comprehensive knowledge such as equipment of water industry, apparatus of electric and automation, construction and building of water engineering, technology and economy of water engineering and so on. (3) Get the ability of applying new techniques such as computer basics, drawing with CAD, professional software programs, GIS developing and so on. (4) Know the theory frontal and developing tendency of the water industry science and have the ability of science researching.

Building Environment and Equipment Engineering: This profession cultivates senior engineering technical talents in building environment and equipment engineering and city public establishment engineering. We are mainly engaged in designing, researching and developing, debugging and administering of projects such as air conditioning engineering, heating engineering, ventilating and cleaning technique, city gas engineering, building equipment automating controlling and so on.

(4) Developing plan of the subject:

The professions of our college cover ecology, life, chemistry, material, machine, environment, municipal, physic and so on, possess the advantage of subject crossing. The general developing target of our college was determined to be developing the platform of water disposal techniques following the researching of pollution preventing techniques, building self-characteristic and advantage in water environmental enduring organic pollutant, environment biology engineering and water disposal technique and equipment, making further progress in water quality disposal and control, compositive technique of rubbish disposal, intelligent building, building environment and human health.

The project called “subject building engineering of new century” has received funding support from our school. Since establishing, the college has concluded more than 100science researching contacts and received science researching funds more than 6,520,000Yuan.Among these, there is one key project and two facial projects of the country natural science funds,3 projects participated in the national 863 plan. More than 220theses were brought out in all kinds of central magazines, in which 7 theses were embodied in the three indexes. We received one award of provincial excellent thesis, 10 postgraduate researching project funds,5 provincial or ministerial progressing award of natural science and science and 9 patents.
